There were no complaints of hunger or thirst, NO movies (wow!), and only 2 requests to stop for the bathroom! After only SIXTEEN "Are we there yet?" questions, we arrived in Glorieta. When we checked in we learned that the activities we were looking forward to (putt-putt, paddle boats, horseshoes, etc) were not available til the weekend because there were no large groups staying at that time. Since we were leaving by Friday, we were a little bummed, but still had a fabulous time.
Our first evening, the boys wanted to watch a movie before bed, but since there was only one tv and it was in the lobby, we made do with the laptop and a shared set of headphones!
The next morning we got ready for our first ever hike in the woods. It was a little chilly outside, so we were glad Reese had this sweet Winnie-the-Pooh blanket outfit - she was so snuggly!
The boys were pumped about the hike, but a little concerned about bears - they carried around these large sticks so they could "whack a bear" if they happened to come across one!
There were lots of small creeks we passed, stopping at some to have races with sticks or flowers.
The trail got a little harder to stick to...
Then we had to ditch the stroller...
We found a neat really old, rusted car
but we never came to the ghost town we were following the trail to get to - we have no idea how much further it was.
The boys were just too tired to keep going
The next day we flew kites for the first time that the boys remember. We don't fly them much at home - the 40-50 mph gusts aren't really conducive to kite flying. In Glorieta, however, the cool breeze was perfect! (There's not any close-ups of Caden - he ran almost non-stop - then asked if he could stop "because flying kites takes too much running!"
The flying took place in a field across from our hotel - the boys were so excited to see a field! It was really funny - they asked in amazement and excitement, "Can we just go run in the field?" Who knew it would be so easy to please them?
The boys had a fabulous time climbing trees...
Reese had fun watching
and picking flowers
Then there were lots of rocks to be thrown into the water
"Think I can skip this wok?"
Daddy giving lessons in how to skip a rock
Caden did it!!!! There was much rejoicing!
Luckily, Daddy brought his clubs on the trip, so the boys took turns using his putter to get in a round of miniature golf!
This was our last night in Glorieta - Reese was wearing one of my new favorite outfits of hers! Mr Ken and Miss Jamie and Sophie brought her an adorable "blessed baby" onesie and stripped leggings a while back, and she is finally big enough to wear them!! Doesn't she look precious!?
I can't believe our little 7 month old has started cruising! Here she's moving in for the apple juice!
These are a montage of crawling pictures - I think she has the cutest crawl - she uses her left knee and her right foot to push herself along!
So BIG!
Stay tuned for the next post - we went to Santa Fe every evening for dinner, and also went to an awesome children's museum!
