The tonsil adventure

We woke Caden up at 6:30 to have a breathing treatment, then straight to the hospital for his surgery. When we walked outside he said, "Why did we have to get up in the middle of the night?" We told him it would be light soon, but he was not convinced. While we waited to be called back, he sat in David's lap with his blanket completely covering him.

But he never went to sleep!

When it was time for him to go back, he hugged us and walked off between the nurses like it was something he did every day - no worries, zero fear or anxiety - it was amazing. Then, in less time than it's taken to create this post, his tonsils and adenoids were removed and he was in recovery! He cried for just a minute when he saw us and said that his throat hurt, and then the miraculous healing began. His surgery was a little after 9, he had a cup of apple juice and a purple popsicle and we were released to take him home by 11:30. He was having no problem drinking, talking, focusing. Here's the popsicle picture while in recovery.

He asked for a Sonic slush, so of course we got him one! He's showing off the Spider-Man stickers he got at the hospital.

He ate and drank all day with no real issues or side effects other than some grouchiness as the day wore on. He never slept. From 6:30 am til 9 pm, the only sleep he got was the 15 minutes he was under anesthesia. He watched movies and played with play-doh and even played with Madelyn and Nathan when they came over to drop Luke off after having a great play day with them! (MANY thanks to Aunt Lori for taking care of him while his "brudder" got his tonsils out, and MANY thanks to Miss Kathy for helping with Reese at the hospital so I could focus on Caden! You ladies are my heroes!)

Thursday morning, Caden bounced into my room to tell me he was up, gave me a hug, then said he was going to go play in the playroom. A few minutes later he came back in and I told him how proud I was that he was doing so well, and I told him his body was so strong! His response was,"Well I exercise every morning." A little bit later he told me he was going to go do some push-ups and did I want to come watch? Well sure - let me grab my camera and I'll be right there. I haven't taken that picture off the camera yet, so stay tuned - it will be on the next post!
